International Collaboration School Video
“This is Me”
Artists: Keala Settle, The Greatest Showman Ensemble
Songwriter(s): Benj Pasek and Justin Paul
Hello fellow educators! My name is Jennifer Heun, and I am a Special Education teacher at
Middle Township Middle School in Cape May Court House, New Jersey. Last year was my first
year discovering and venturing into the Global Virtual Classroom World and connecting students
internationally… and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! As a result of my love of international collaboration
within the classroom, I developed the idea of creating a video of students from around the world
showing joy and happiness. I used Justin Timberlake’s song, “Can’t Stop this Feeling” to express
our children’s joy and happiness.
As I entered another year in teaching, I anxiously awaited to continue to create yet another video
celebrating our youth and embracing our diversity! I had difficulties in selecting a song that captured
our youths’ attention yet embraced a worldly theme that we can all connect with.
I originally had a song in mind, but was not totally “sold” on it, until one of my students brought
to my attention the theme song from the movie soundtrack, “ The Greatest Showman.” Remembering hearing friends highly recommending this movie and it’s message, I took a look at the song, “This is Me” and was completely blown away by its powerful message that EVERYONE can identify with, ESPECIALLY OUR
YOUTH!
The song, “This is Me” identifies the fears of people who feel they are different and are not
accepted by others. It encourages individuals to accept your uniqueness and to stand up to those
who may not accept you. This song simply promotes ACCEPTANCE and COURAGE!
As listened and viewed this song, goosebumps and chills overcame me! “This is Me” is message
that we can all share and learn from.
I ask you to join me in creating an international powerful message that everyone can celebrate,
especially our vulnerable youth.
